Unveiling Morphological Plasticity: A Rare Six-Armed Brittle Star, Ophiolepis superba from the Gulf of Mannar, India
摘要
This study reports the first documented observation of arm deformities in the brittle star Ophiolepis superba, collected from the Gulf of Mannar, Tamil Nadu, India. Among the six specimens analysed, one exhibited a hexameric arm abnormality. A detailed morphological examination of the abnormal specimen revealed distinct deviations from normal anatomical features. This study highlights the significance of monitoring and investigating such deformities to better understand the genetic, ecological, and environmental factors influencing abnormal morphogenesis in brittle stars.
