摘要

The present study reports the first-time documentation (new records) of two species of tintinnids (loricate ciliates), Climacocylis scalaroides and Climacocylis digitula, from coastal waters of India. C. scalaroides was reported from off Kanyakumari and the neighbouring region of the South-eastern Arabian Sea (Muttom, Kovalam and Varkala). Concurrently C. digitula was observed in the coastal waters off Kanyakumari. The genus Climacocylis has not been reported from Indian coastal waters until now; therefore, the present study suggests their occurrence may be linked to possible intrusion via ballast water discharge or oceanic water masses. Furthermore, the study emphasises the morphological features of C. scalaroides and C. digitula along with their global distribution.
