Trend Analysis of Meteorological Variables (Precipitation & Temperature) for Upper Narmada River Sub-Basin, India

Trend analysis is crucial for understanding the changing climate and its impacts. This study analysed rainfall and temperature trends from 8 IMD grid points in the Upper Narmada River Sub-basin using Mann–Kendall, and modified Mann–Kendall tests along with Sen’s slope estimator. The tests were applied at monthly and annual time scales. The results revealed distinct insights, with the Mann–Kendall test indicating a significant rising trend in temperature and a less substantial trend in precipitation. In contrast, the modified Mann–Kendall test, accounting for autocorrelation, provided a better understanding. Sen’s slope quantified a significant increase in minimum temperature at 0.01 °C per year. The findings of this study have important implications for water resource management and climate change adaptation in the Upper Narmada River Sub-basin, highlighting the need for robust strategies to cope with the changing climate.
