<p>Northern Indian regions are hotspots to the winter oilseed crop and other crops growing under the stress conditions. In recent couple of years, the crop growth and yield have been decreased due to various abiotic stresses. It has been revealed that applying rhizobacterial strains promote plant development and increase crop productivity under stress conditions. The goal of present investigation was to identify psychrotrophic bacterial strains from rhizosphere of mustard that could alleviate cold stress and enhancing mustard growth. A total of 88 rhizobacterial strains were isolated from mustard and screened for low temperature, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate deaminase (ACC) and other plant growth promoting (PGP) attributes. The strain EU-MRN-53 showed efficient psychrotrophic ACC deaminase producer (784 ± 1.08 nmol α-ketobutyrate mg protein<sup>− 1</sup> h<sup>− 1</sup>) along with other PGP attributes and identified as <i>Planococcus donghaensis</i> using 16&#xa0;S rRNA gene sequencing. To the best of knowledge, the present study is the first report on ACC deaminase producing novel psychrotrophic bacterium <i>Planococcus donghaensis</i> (EU-MRN-53) for growth enhancement of mustard. Moreover, the inoculated psychrotrophic <i>Planococcus donghaensis</i> strain also aided in inducing stress response in mustard by improving growth and photosynthesis parameters. The efficient strain <i>Planococcus donghaensis</i> (EU-MRN-53) could be used as bioinoculants for horticultural crop growing in mountainous regions.</p>
