Epiphytic Algae from Kolong River - a Major Tributary of Brahmaputra Basin of South-East Asia with Ten New Reports from India
摘要
The present investigation focuses to compile a database of epiphytic microalgal diversity colonizing luxuriantly on submerged parts of Eichhornia crassipes in the Kolong River under Brahmaputra basin, a major river basin in South East Asia. A total of 147 epiphytic microalgal species were enumerated belonging to 69 genera, 41 families under 6 phyla. Desmidiaceae with 35 species emerged as species rich family followed by Scenedesmaceae (20) and Euglenophyceae (15). Cosmarium (Desmidiaceae) was the dominant genus with 23 species. Out of 147 identified algal species, a total of 10 species belonging to Chlorophyta (5), Heterokontophyta (4) and Euglenophyta (1) were reported as new to Indian algal flora from this region.
