Zur aktuellen Situation der Störarten in der Donau
摘要
Sturgeons are among the most endangered fish species worldwide. In the Danube, overfishing, poaching, migration barriers, and habitat degradation have caused steep population declines. Past stocking efforts using individuals of unknown origin, as well as hybridization with non-native species, have further compromised the genetic integrity of the remaining autochthonous population. Using the example of the sterlet, the last sturgeon species found in the Upper Danube, historical and current causes of population decline, and threats are presented, along with potential restoration and protection measures.
