<p>As part of risk management, dam operators regularly carry out in-depth inspections, which consider and in some cases update the relevant limit states. The German technical rules define requirements for operational personnel. To date, there has been a regulatory gap with regard to the qualification of personnel working on in-depth inspections. This discussion paper proposes that the dam industry should define a “Dams and Reservoirs” qualification and consolidate it with quality-assured training courses. This will guarantee the high safety level of German dams and pave the way for a smooth handover of our valuable dam infrastructure into the hands of future generations.</p>
