摘要

Streams are hotspots of biodiversity. Human impacts have contributed to a severe decline of biodiversity in streams. One of the key reasons is the degradation of freshwater habitats due to intense river regulation. The present manuscript discusses the correlation between stream morphology and the spatial and temporal variability of habitats. Further on, examples of habitat enhancing measures are illustrated. Important considerations relating to the correct planning of habitat enhancing measures are explained, to obtain positive and sustainable effects for the biodiversity of the concerned streams.
