<p>The prevalence of anxiety in palliative care is 48%, while that of anxiety disorders is around 11%. Since anxiety is one of the physiological, ultimately vital human emotions, it is often difficult to distinguish it from anxiety that requires treatment. This article presents and explains the diagnosis, aetiology and various non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatment options for the different anxiety syndromes that are relevant to general practice.</p>
