Environmental friendly synthesis of cobalt-doped maghemite (Co-γ-Fe2O3) photocatalysts for visible-light driven wastewater treatment
摘要
Photocatalysis reduces our dependence upon fossil fuels by using light from sun. In this study, we report a facile co-precipitation method for synthesis of Cobalt doped maghemite-based nanoparticles (NPs). The bandgap of γ-Fe2O3 was tuned from 3.00 to 2.67 eV. The inclusion of Cobalt as 5% by weight optimized the Photocatalytic performance of maghemite up to 89% degradation of MO dye at a pH of 6. The cobalt doping introduced more active sites in the lattice of maghemite and it appeared as Tetragonal Phase through XRD. SEM revealed the Nano spheres shape of maghemite which was improved and changed to Nano rods due to doping, proving that the adsorption property increases. Overall, the degradation efficiency was significantly increased by this 5% doping. Moreover, the recycle and scavengers test has been also employed to check its stability and characteristic properties. Hence, 5% cobalt-doped maghemite appeared as a remarkable photo catalyst in wastewater treatment.
