<p>The partial nitritation combined with anammox (PN/A) process has garnered increasing attention from the scientific community as a sustainable and economically viable alternative for nitrogen removal from wastewater. This study presents a scientometric analysis of global research trends on the partial nitritation and anammox (PN/A) process, based on 749 publications indexed in the Web of Science database up to April 2024. Bibliometric tools including CiteSpace and Microsoft Excel were used to examine publication trends, citations, country contributions, key authors, journals, and keyword co-occurrences. Results show a rapid increase in both publications and citations since 2002, indicating growing scientific interest. China leads in publication volume, while Belgium and Spain demonstrate high scientific centrality. Bioresource Technology and Water Research are identified as the most influential journals. Full-scale applications of partial nitritation and anammox (PN/A) in municipal, industrial, and landfill leachate treatment confirm the process’s environmental and operational advantages, including energy efficiency and reduced chemical demand. However, challenges such as the suppression of nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (NOB), microbial stability, and reactor optimization persist. Future research should prioritize the development of integrated strategies that combine microbial ecology, process engineering, and data-driven control tools. This study not only maps the evolution of partial nitritation and anammox (PN/A) research but also provides actionable insights for guiding future innovations and policymaking in wastewater management.</p>
