<p>We report synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4 (1&#xa0;H)-ones (DHQs) a class of biologically active heterocycles using novel and renewable <i>Rumex vesicarius</i> extracts as a natural green catalyst. Traditionally, synthesis of these compounds involves use of expensive and hazardous reagents. In present study, we use an environmentally benign, non-toxic, cheaper and edible plant extract as a catalyst. The reaction involving condensation of anthranilamide with various aromatic aldehydes in an aqueous alcoholic medium gives desired yield. The method offers several practical advantages, including excellent yields (up to 95%), short reaction times (10–25&#xa0;min), simple experimental procedure, biodegradable and efficient catalyst, while highlighting the potential of plant‑based catalysts in sustainable synthesis.</p>
