摘要

Purpose of Review

Botulinum toxin (BTx) has evolved from its initial use in cosmetic procedures to emerge as a versatile therapeutic agent, addressing a spectrum of medical conditions including strabismus, migraine, and hyperhidrosis. This systematic review delves into the expanding role of BTx in wound healing and scar prevention, which are pivotal in managing both the physical and psychological impact of scars.

Recent Findings

BTx contributes to scar reduction by decreasing wound tension, regulating inflammation, and modulation of fibroblast activity. Clinical studies across various surgical specialties highlight its efficacy in minimizing scar width, improving aesthetic outcomes, and preventing functional impairments. Additionally, BTx is often complemented by adjunctive therapies such as corticosteroids, laser treatment, and radiotherapy to augment therapeutic outcomes.

Summary

While BTx injections generally demonstrate a favourable safety profile with minimal complications, further research is crucial to establish standardized dosages and injection protocols. The review highlights the need for focused investigations to refine BTx utilization and optimize its therapeutic potential, thereby enhancing patient care and outcomes.
