Het effect van N-hexylcyanoacrylaat (NHCA) versus partikels voor prostaatembolisatie bij patiënten met een verblijfskatheter als gevolg van een urineretentie door BPH
摘要
Minimally invasive procedures such as prostate artery embolization (PAE) are often the preferred treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) within the elderly patient population with comorbidities. Furthermore, in patients with an indwelling catheter as a result of urinary retention, embolization is safe and effective. In this study, the clinical outcomes of PAE using N‑hexylcyanoacrylate (NHCA) of 30 patients with an indwelling catheter as a result of BPH were investigated. Twenty-two patients received embolization using conventional particles and eight using NHCA (‘glue’). The results show 75% spontaneous micturition without catheterization in the NHCA group, in contrast to 52% in the particle embolization group. The complication rate was lower in the NHCA group, 25%, versus the particle group, 45%. Therefore, NHCA embolization seems to be a safer and more effective treatment of patients with an indwelling catheter as a result of urinary retention due to BPH.
