De rol van chirurgische castratie ten behoeve van androgeendeprivatietherapie
摘要
Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most common cancer in men in the Netherlands, 22% of patients presenting with metastasis. Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is the gold standard for the treatment of metastatic patients. ADT can be administered through chemical or surgical castration. The current practice favors chemical castration. This study explores the extent to which surgical castration is discussed with patients. A survey was distributed in June 2022 among urologists and urology residents in the Netherlands. The main reason for urologists to avoid surgical castration is its definitive nature; patients probably reject it due to the cosmetic aspects. Since surgical castration is cheaper and equally effective as LHRH analogs, this alternative should be discussed with patients with metastatic PCa.
