Methoden en resultaten van LDR-brachytherapie voor patiënten met gelokaliseerd prostaatcarcinoom; een historisch overzicht van het Antoni van Leeuwenhoek
摘要
Between 2002–2023 1.360 patients were treated for localised prostate cancer with transperineal ultrasound guided brachytherapy. The most important technological developments were the introduction of linked Iodine seeds in 2007, use of MRI for implantation planning and real-time adaptive planning in 2011. In a cohort of 261 prostate cancer patients, 94.6 and 92.2% were free from recurrence and metastases after 5 and 7 years, respectively. Local recurrences occurred more often in the vesicles (11 ×) than in the prostate gland (6 ×). Side effects of the treatment were increase of urinary frequency, nycturia and urgency. These peaked after 3 months but decreased thereafter. No significant relation was found between dose variables and treatment failure. There was a significant relation between dose to the external sphincter and urinary frequency, urgency and nycturia.
