摘要

A benign urethral polyp is a rare condition in childhood that can lead to voiding dysfunction and/or haematuria. The differential diagnosis is extensive and include a rhabdomyosarcoma. We present four cases from the Netherlands with a benign polyp. The symptoms and the age varies. The cause is unclear. Theoretically it could be a remnant of müllerian ducts, but since a urethral polyp can also occur in girls, this explanation is controversial. The polyp is usually located at the level of the colliculus and is histologically described as a fibroepithelial polyp. If malignancy is unlikely, transurethral resection is preferred. Cystoscopy is both diagnostic and therapeutic. A recurrence is not described.
