A case of diabetic ketoacidosis: from transient blindness to acute kidney injury to full recovery
摘要
Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a serious metabolic complication of diabetes mellitus, especially in those with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Sudden lowering of blood sugars and inadequate hydration during the initial treatment of DKA can lead to serious treatment-related complications which can even rarely result in mortality of the patient.
Case reportHere, we report a case of DKA who had complications of transient blindness and acute kidney injury due to rapid lowering of blood sugar levels and inadequate hydration in the initial phase of treatment which was reversed after standard treatment protocols for DKA were followed.
ConclusionHence, it is essential to follow standard treatment protocols, to maintain adequate hydration and avoid sudden lowering of blood sugars to prevent treatment-related complications.
