Background <p>Vaccination rates among Indian patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) are strikingly low, despite their proven role in reducing morbidity and mortality from influenza and pneumococcal infections. Barriers exist at both patient and physician levels, with many physicians lacking adequate knowledge or failing to strongly recommend vaccines.</p> Objective <p>As physician advocacy significantly influences vaccination uptake, this study evaluates the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of general physicians regarding these vaccines in T2DM patients.</p> Methods&#xa0; <p>A cross-sectional study was conducted from January to October 2024, involving 109 practicing physicians recruited from medical conferences. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews using a validated 30-item questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and proportions were used for analysis.</p> Results <p>While 91.74% of physicians acknowledged vaccine efficacy, knowledge gaps were prevalent, including unawareness of vaccine cost (71.56%), contraindications (93.58%), duration of influenza vaccine effectiveness (85.32%), and pneumococcal vaccine recommendations (30.28%). Only 58.7% of physicians routinely recommended vaccines, with just 16.82% advising more than half their patients. Key barriers included high vaccine costs (69.72%), patient refusal (43.12%), and time constraints (42.2%). Suggested measures to improve uptake included physician-targeted educational interventions (83%), stricter healthcare policies, electronic vaccination reminders, and enhanced vaccine availability.</p> Conclusion <p>Despite recognizing the importance of vaccination, significant gaps in physician knowledge and practices contribute to low coverage in Indian T2DM patients. Tailored, multicomponent interventions emphasizing physician education and patient awareness, coupled with systemic healthcare reforms, are critical to improving vaccination rates.</p>
