Background <p>The significant impact of dietary choices on the onset and avoidance of long-term and severe illnesses like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer is widely acknowledged. Studies have indicated a correlation between the inflammatory properties of one’s diet and the emergence of cardiometabolic risk elements.</p> Objective <p>The present study is conducted with the aim of investigating the association between dietary inflammatory potential (DIP) and cardiometabolic components in a sample of the Iranian population.</p> Methods <p>Cross-sectional data from “Tabari Cohort Study” as a part of Prospective Epidemiological Research Studies in Iran (the PERSIAN Cohort Study) was used. The data were divided into 3 demographic and anthropometric, nutritional, and clinical sections. A validated 125-item Food intake frequency questionnaire (FFQ) measured food intake of participants over the past year. To find the association of DIP with metabolic syndrome and its components, binary logistic regression was used in crude and multivariable-adjusted models.</p> Results <p>A total of 6133 individuals were included. In a more inflammatory diet, higher age, HDL-C, systolic, and diastolic blood pressure were observed. DIP score had no statistically significant difference between subjects with and without metabolic syndrome. The odds ratio of hypertension was 1.38 (95% CI, 1.16–1.65) for individuals in the top quartile DIP score. The corresponding values were 0.76 (95% CI, 0.66–0.88) for high triglyceride and 0.82 (95% CI, 0.71–0.95) for abnormal glucose homeostasis. No significant association was obtained in adjusted models.</p> Conclusion <p>No association was found between metabolic syndrome and the inflammatory potential of diet, but hypertension, high triglyceride, and abnormal glucose homeostasis may be related to DIP, warranting additional research.</p>

Objective
