A SiGe HBT for a High-Performance LNA for 60 GHz Wireless Receiver
摘要
Several cascode low noise amplifier (LNA) designs have been reported, but they often fail to achieve a balance across linearity, gain, power consumption, and noise figure, while also lacking a comprehensive evaluation framework. This paper addresses these shortcomings by implementing a simple yet comprehensive design framework to simultaneously optimize these performance metrics in the proposed modified cascode LNA. Compared to conventional LNAs reported in the literature, the new proposed design in this paper offers a high linearity and gain with a low noise figure of 2.90 dB at the operating frequency of 60 GHz. Finally, the paper explores the LNA design’s suitability in a system environment using the virtual test bench (VTB). Thus, in summary, this work offers a significant contribution by addressing the limitations of existing designs and proposing a superior LNA with comprehensive design strategies resulting in state-of-the-art performance, as well as an evaluation methodology considering a realistic scenario.
