The Effects of Tide on Seepage and Deformation Behaviors of Coastal Foundation Pit
摘要
The influence of continuous tidal fluctuations on the engineering projects in coastal areas has always been a highly concerning but unresolved issue. This study conducted a series of model experiments. The model box is divided into a marine area and a land area. The marine area simulates the rise and fall of tides, whereas the land area simulates the coastal soil layer and the foundation pit. The effects of tides on the characteristics of coastal sandy subsoil and the deformation behavior of foundation pits were comparatively analyzed from the perspectives of deformation of the diaphragm wall, surface settlement, earth pressure on the outside of foundation pits, and pore water pressure. Our findings indicate that the pore water pressure and earth pressure in coastal foundation soils both periodically fluctuate and accumulate under tidal fluctuations, causing soil settlement and displacement of the support structure. The embedment depth of the support structure also affects tidal action. According to the test results, when the embedment depth of the support structure is 5 m, the maximum increase in ground settlement is 28.3%, and the maximum increase in horizontal displacement of the support structure is 24.7% for a 1 m increase in the tidal range, whereas the maximum increase is 21 and 16% for an embedment depth of 10 m, respectively. Furthermore, a relationship model between the maximum value of foundation pit deformation under tidal action and the tidal range and embedment depth of the supporting structure is established. Some practical suggestions for foundation pit construction in coastal areas are provided.
