A new genus and species of gall midge (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) from Populus spp. (Salicaceae) in western North America
摘要
A new genus and new species, Leucecis eminens Gagné (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae), are described for a gall midge that forms simple blisters on leaves of Populus balsamifera L. (balsam poplar) and Populus trichocarpa Torr. & A.Gray ex. Hook. (black cottonwood) in western North America. Larvae live exposed in a concavity on the underside of the leaves. The new genus belongs to the subfamily Cecidomyiinae, the supertribe Lasiopteridi and the tribe Dasineurini. It differs from Dasineura mainly in the short ovipositor and discrete female cerci. It is compared further here in a key that separates the other North American genera of Lasiopteridi with discrete female cerci.
