<p>The blood-feeding muscids (Diptera: Muscidae) are infamous for being the harbinger of numerous veterinary diseases and reduction in yield, leading to billions of economic losses in dairy and ranch businesses worldwide. Among these, <i>Stomoxys indicus</i> Picard, 1908 and <i>Musca crassirostris</i> Stein, 1903 are two of the less-studied but equally relevant hematophagous species, that are obligative blood-feeders, ectoparasitizing on domesticated and wild animals. In spite of their heavy reliance on chemosensory systems via antennal and maxillary sensilla, to locate food, mates, oviposition sites and prey, their detailed ultrastructural studies remain scarce. In this study, we examined the descriptive aspects of antennal and palpal sensilla, including their types, position, and comparative presence or absence in both sexes of each of the two species. Here, we have identified five types of sensilla located on the antenna, namely- a. Chaetic of four types b. Trichoid c. Basiconic of two types d. Coeloconic with and without underlying grooves and e. Clavate. Where the chaetic and trichoid are presumed to be mechano-receptor in function, the other three seemed to be significant for olfactory purposes. Significant sexual dimorphism is also observed in <i>M. crassirostris</i> regarding the antennal structure, whereas, both the species showed numerous differences in the density and distribution of the major sensilla types, which are compared between species. These significant differences may be attributed to be the function of hematophagy and differential incidence time of these species on their prey.</p>
