<p>This article presents the use of a conditional integrator slide mode control (CISMC) technique to reduce the pilot-induced oscillations (PIO) tendency of unstable aircraft. To check this effect more clearly, comparisons were made with results already published in the literature. Models of aircraft and controller already published were used, and the CISMC-type controller was added to these models. The effects observed and presented here are lower oscillation amplitudes, lower phase delay and a supposed increase in bandwidth (already predicted in SMC-type controllers). Furthermore, in addition to simulating conditions published in previous works, higher frequency and higher gain controls were also considered, and even in these more critical conditions, no PIO was observed. The results indicate that the use of CISMC-type controllers could be one more way of reducing the tendency to PIO and, consequently, increasing the flight safety of aircraft with this type of control law.</p>
