Introduction <p>Prolactin (PRL) has been reported to be associated with oxidative stress. Various studies have shown that many patients, who initially have elevated PRL levels in a single test, have normal PRL levels in later test. The aim of this study was to measure the serum concentrations of PRL and oxidative stress markers in both single and pooled samples.</p> Materials and methods <p>The study participants were 140 women. Serial sampling was performed by drawing venous blood at different time intervals (0, 30 and 60 min). The collected samples were divided into two groups: based group (0 min) and pooled group (pooled samples prepared from samples collected at 0, 30, 60 min). Then, PRL and oxidative stress markers were measured and compared in both groups.</p> Results <p>A statistically significant decrease was observed in pooled PRL group compared to based group (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05). The levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) in pooled samples were significantly lower than that in based group (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05).</p> Conclusions <p>This finding suggests a connection between oxidative stress and PRL levels, depending on the type of sampling used (single or serial). Further investigation is needed to explore the underlying mechanisms.</p>

Introduction
