<p>Microfluidic technology integrates basic operational units such as processing, separation, reaction, and detection into one microchannel chip, featuring advantages as miniaturization, low consumption, high efficiency, high throughput, and automation. As an important component of microfluidic chips, concentration gradient microfluidic chips contain microchannels with designed special structures that can form different concentration gradients within one chip. This review summarizes the classification, the principle and the applications of concentration gradient generators and particularly highlights the recent progress achieved with concentration gradient microfluidic chips in the field of drug screening. Finally, we provide an insightful perspective for its future development prospects.</p>
