<p>Okra (<i>Abelmoschus esculentus</i> L.) is a major vegetable crop with significant commercial value, which suffers from yield losses due to various biotic stresses. Begomoviruses (family <i>Geminiviridae</i>) cause severe infection in okra in warmer regions worldwide. In 2023, a severe disease infection was observed in okra (<i>Ablemoschus esculentus</i> L.) at the research farm of ICAR–Indian Agriculture Research Institute, New Delhi, India. In this study a novel alphasatellite associated with the monopartite okra enation leaf curl virus (OELCuV) (<i>Begomovirus abelsmoschusenation</i>) begomovirus was identified by rolling circle amplification (RCA) in north India. Sequence analysis of OELCuV showed 88.98–99.02% nucleotide&#xa0;(nt) sequence identity with other OELCuV isolates. The alphasatellite shared 85.11% and 87.73% nt sequence identity with the symptomless alphasatellite associated with hollyhock yellow vein virus&#xa0;isolate Lahore 2 (NC_039084.1) and hollyhock yellow vein alphasatellite isolate J47 (MF683829.1), respectively. According to the species demarcation&#xa0;criteria based on the&#xa0;sequence similarity, it was concluded that it is a novel alphasatellite associated with OELCuV.</p>
