<p>With the advent of IoT applications, such as smart military systems, smart healthcare, smart grid, and smart surveillance, the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT) has evolved from hype to reality. Interactions between sensors and IoT-enabled devices in smart IoT applications generate massive amounts of data. This data must be processed properly, distributed safely, and aggregated efficiently to guarantee resilience against potential cyber threats. The reliance on communication channels that are publicly accessible and frequently insecure presents additional problems to the integrity, reliability, and confidentiality of the data. In this paper, we have presented a comprehensive review of data dissemination in IoT networks. The main contributions of this study are as follows: 1. This survey uniquely bridges the gap between performance and security in IoT data dissemination by offering a holistic taxonomy and integrated analysis, unlike previous studies that address these concerns in isolation. 2. A novel and detailed taxonomy of data dissemination techniques, categorized by communication paradigms, network architecture, and security mechanisms, is proposed. 3. A comparative analysis of state-of-the-art secure data dissemination strategies across various IoT application domains, with an emphasis on performance metrics such as scalability, energy efficiency, and latency, is presented. 4. Finally, we have highlighted an in-depth discussion of current limitations and open research challenges to guide future investigations in this domain. This review aims to provide researchers and practitioners with a foundational understanding of the landscape, technical trends, and critical gaps in secure data dissemination within IoT ecosystems.</p>
