Addressing reliability and security for industrial internet of things systems: layered approach using software defined network
摘要
In the era of Industry 4.0, the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) systems into industrial operations presents significant challenges in reliability and security. Unreliable devices lead to failures and inaccurate data, while security vulnerabilities expose systems to cyber threats. This study explores how these challenges impact the safety of Industrial IoT (IIoT) systems, demonstrating how reliability issues can cause incorrect decision-making and hazardous situations, while security breaches can compromise data integrity and amplify safety risks. A layered approach is proposed to assess vulnerabilities and enhance the reliability of IIoT systems. The IoT-based patient monitoring case study serves as an example of the implementation of the proposed approach to ensure the system's reliability and security. The research also suggests the adoption of Software-Defined Networking as a strategy to create a secure and resilient framework for IIoT operations, ensuring dependable and safe performance in the industry.
