<p>Underwater image processing particularly for environments such as murky waters, deep-sea conditions, and regions with varying light and visibility, is a complex and critical area of research. Compared to the pictures taken in the air, underwater images are of lower quality and typically have a hazy, muted appearance. This study suggests a method for enhancing underwater images that makes use of both the RGB that is the combination of red, green, and blue, where the intensity of these three primary colors determines the overall color and LAB colour space that stands for L for illumination, a for values from red to green, and b for values from blue to yellow. These two colour spaces basically focusing on two primary challenges essential for underwater image enhancement—colour and contrast distortion. These basic issues that underwater images face are addressed and handled using different colour spaces. The contrast can be increased using LAB colour space, and its hues can be restored using RGB colour channel. Experiments on underwater images shot in various conditions show that the recommended technique outperforms other cutting edge methods in terms of the final image quality.</p>
