摘要

Improving fuel economy of the vehicle by various means is one of the key research areas and value proportion is based on fuel saving achieved with minimum design changes. Driving modes like sport mode, eco-mode is in practice for different drivability and fuel saving by various software features in vehicle control unit. Pulse and glide in gear with idle (PnG-GI) as eco-driving mode benefits reducing fuel consumption in manual and automatic transmission vehicles. This mode is redefined and validated in three vehicle models with different power to weight ratio and seating capacity which are predominantly sold in Indian markets. Various segments are unique and hence fuel saving approach helps in comparative study. Speed, acceleration and fuel consumption are key parameters in this real road driving study. All the vehicle models show positive fuel saving and marginal variation in different operating zone. Key influencing parameters are studied, and optimum thresholds are identified based on fuel saving strategy. Based on key control parameters, fuel saving strategy is proposed and tested. Study shows fuel saving benefit of 22% based on optimization of the mode.
