Digital Transparency Alienation: When Information Transparency Undermines Affordance-Driven Innovation Under Environmental Uncertainty
摘要
Amid rising environmental uncertainty, firms increasingly pursue digital technology affordance to unlock growth. Yet how this potential translates into sustainable innovation advantages remains unclear. Grounded in knowledge management theory, this study analyzes survey data from 399 manufacturing firms to reveal how digital affordance enhances innovation performance. The findings demonstrate that knowledge collaboration—integrating sharing, integration, and creation—is the pivotal mechanism transforming technological affordance into value. Furthermore, environmental uncertainty weakens the link between digital technology affordance and knowledge collaboration, while information transparency reinforces this negative moderating effect. These findings significantly advance theory by uncovering the knowledge-based pathway through which digital affordance drives innovation and explicating critical boundary conditions. They also offer actionable insights for firms seeking to leverage digital technologies for competitive advantage.
