<p>The SDG targets 9 and 13 show the importance of affordable internet access and clean environment worldwide, respectively, although the availability of literature is so limited in this regard. Therefore, this study estimated the effect of the global digital divide, renewable energy consumption, forestation, and trade openness on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 35 European countries from 1990 to 2018 by using auto-regressive distributed lag model (ARDL) and the Dumitrescu-Hurlin causality test. The Dumitrescu-Hurlin causality test explored the unidirectional causality from the global digital divide to GHG, renewable energy to trade, GHG to forestation in Europe (HICs), forestation to GHG, global digital divide to trade openness, and forestation to trade openness in Europe (HMICs). The bi-directional causality was observed from the global digital divide to GHG, renewable energy to GHG, and renewable energy to the global digital divide in Europe (HMICs). The ARDL showed increased GHG due to the global digital divide and trade openness in HICs and HMICs. Furthermore, the fall in GHG was also confirmed to raise the share of renewable energy consumption in HICs and HMICs and forestation in HICs. The government should start environment-friendly projects through public and private investment and reduce their taxes and tariffs. The sustainable environmental quality can be achieved by increasing the consumption of renewable energy in traditional energy sectors and reducing subsidies on conventional energy technologies. Governments should increase the forestation area by creating awareness among people through printed and electronic media.</p>
