Characterization and genomic evaluation of probiotic potential, safety, and aquaculture applicability of Enterococcus faecalis SZ07 isolated from Trachinotus ovatus intestine in vitro
摘要
To assess the probiotic potential, safety, and application value of Enterococcus faecalis SZ07 (isolated from the intestine of Trachinotus ovatus) in aquaculture, this study combined phenotypic assays and genomic analysis. The strain exhibited typical probiotic-related phenotypes including environmental stress tolerance, intestinal adhesion ability, and antimicrobial activity against aquatic pathogens. Genomic analysis confirmed that SZ07 does not carry key virulence genes, but contains gene clusters involved in the synthesis of probiotic secondary metabolites; it also shared functional similarity with the probiotic strain E. faecalis Symbioflor 1, while displaying marked differences from the pathogenic strain E. faecalis V583. Although E. faecalis SZ07 carried some resistance genes, it remained sensitive to vancomycin, and this carriage did not impair its probiotic functions in vitro. The unique adaptability of this marine-derived strain lays a foundation for its application in aquaculture.
