摘要

Obesity is a global issue and has emerged as a significant public health challenge worldwide. It is defined by excess fat accumulation in the body, leading to various metabolic issues. Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of regulatory cell death (RCD), is marked by intracellular iron overload and lipid peroxide accumulation. Numerous researches have shown that ferroptosis is closely associated with the development and progression of various diseases. Dysregulation of lipid metabolism and deposition due to iron overload play a crucial role in obesity, creating conditions conducive to ferroptosis. Consequently, ferroptosis may become a key target for pharmacological treatment of obesity. In this paper, we provide an overview of the mechanisms of ferroptosis occurrence and regulation, and discuss the research progress of ferroptosis in obesity, which will provide a new direction for the prevention and treatment of obesity and other metabolic diseases in the future.
