<p>The Osteoarthritis Therapy&#xa0;2.0 program for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis in Austria is the first to offer an evidence-based conservative therapy that combines exercise, nutrition, supplementation, and education. In the short term, the program aims to improve patients’ quality of life and functionality and reduce pain. Another goal is to delay the need for knee replacement surgery as long as possible. The program is scientifically monitored and evaluated by the Danube University Krems and developed in collaboration with medical specialists, sports scientists, and nutritionists. Basic therapy includes active medical training therapy based on the patient’s individual needs and anti-inflammatory nutritional advice. An important component is weight control: patients who are overweight are recommended to lose 5% of their body weight within 6&#xa0;months. In addition, special tests are used to measure mobility, stability, and muscle strength. Special emphasis is placed on patient education, which takes the form of an innovative osteoarthritis card game and targeted training. Patients become experts on their disease. Nutritional counseling promotes an anti-inflammatory diet with a&#xa0;focus on complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, omega‑3 fatty acids, and antioxidants to positively influence the course of the disease. The aim of the program is to improve functional status and empower patients. In the long term, interdisciplinary collaboration and collection of data will lead to a&#xa0;better prognosis and more individualized treatment options.</p>
