<p>The interfaces between rheumatology and nephrology are diverse, as both specialties of internal medicine deal with complex systemic diseases that cannot be confined to a&#xa0;single organ. The nephrologist is an important cooperation partner of the rheumatologist in the diagnosis and differentiated treatment of renal involvement in collagen diseases, small vessel vasculitis and sarcoidosis, as well as in functional disorders such as renal tubular acidosis, e.g., in Sjögren’s syndrome. Renal side effects of treatment with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), for example, or the treatment of osteoporosis in advanced renal function impairment with differentiation from the chronic kidney disease–mineral bone disorder (CKD-MBD) spectrum require close cooperation between rheumatology and nephrology.</p>
