Al2O3-MgO-C Refractory for Iron & Steel Industry–An Overview
摘要
Alumina (Al2O3)–Magnesia (MgO)-carbon (C) refractories are widely used for various applications in steel making process, particularly in the side wall and bottom lining of steel ladle, bottom lining of hot metal de-sulphurisation (De-S) ladle, inner lining of submerged entry nozzle (SEN) and as ceramic foam filter in steel melt filtration. The advantage of in-situ MgAl2O4 spinel formation associated with volume expansion in Al2O3-MgO-C (AMC) refractory strongly reduces the joint wear and erosion during use and makes it superior than MgO-C and Al2O3-C refractory. The AMC refractory also shows excellent thermo-mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. Raw materials, compositions and additives play key role in in-situ spinel formation in AMC refractory. This paper reviews the AMC refractory in-total with emphasis on raw materials and compositions for different applications and their effect on the refractory properties.
