摘要

The effect of diammonium hydrogen phosphate (DHAP) pretreatment combined with gelatin–hydroxyapatite (HA) dip coating has been evaluated to tailor the bioresorption of annealed magnesium (AM). The chemical conversion by the pretreatment forms magnesium ammonium phosphate (struvite) phase deposits on the AM surface (PTM). Further dip coating of PTM (PTDCM) shows more HA deposition decorating the struvite phase compared to only dip-coated AM (DCM). The degradation of PTDCM in simulated body fluid (SBF) for 7 days indicates 15% decrease in pH change, 86% reduction in hydrogen evolution and 36% reduction in degradation rate compared to DCM sample. The PTDCM also exhibits HA deposits covering the entire surface but DCM shows uneven deposits along with cracks. The substantial reduction in the initial hydrogen burst and magnesium chloride phase for PTDCM in SBF suggests the multifunctional potential of DHAP pretreatment in tailoring the bioresorption of HA-coated Mg implants.
