Haynes 282 Superalloy: Advancements, Challenges, Applications, and Future Perspectives

Haynes 282, a high-performance nickel-based superalloy, proved itself to be a revolutionary substance for demanding high-temperature applications in the nuclear, power generation, and aerospace industries. The remarkable combination of properties like microstructure, mechanical strength, and oxidation resistance of Haynes 282 are suitable for designing critical components such as heat exchangers, turbine blades, reactors, and pressure vessels. This paper explores the alloy’s distinct microstructural characteristics, such as carbide phases and gamma prime (γ) precipitates, which strengthen its resistance to mechanical and thermal deterioration. We have also discussed advancements in manufacturing techniques, such as additive manufacturing and traditional methods, while addressing challenges like machinability issues and phase stability under prolonged exposure. By highlighting its applications and future directions, this work provides a comprehensive roadmap for leveraging Haynes 282 in next-generation energy systems and sustainable technologies.
