摘要

Objective

To study the effectiveness of combined treatment in patients with dry socket, (alveolar osteitis) after tooth extraction.

Materials and methods

The 86 patients with alveolar osteitis (50 females − 58%and 36 male patients-42%) were included in this retrospective study (total 86 patients). Clinical and radiological methods were used to evaluation socket. To conduct a comparative analysis of the treatments results, two groups were formed: The I group(control) is represented by 45 patients with dry socket iodoform gauze was used. The II group is represented by 41patients, with dry socket received treatment gauze impregnated with ointment of combined action was used. Patients were called in after 1,3,5,7,10,13 days for gauze change (in both groups). Also soft tissue growth and pain levels were recorded. The pain levels were assessed according to Visual Analogue Scale (VAS).

Results

Initial pain level was 7.1 ± 0.1 and 6.9 ± 0.1 in groups 1 and 2 respectively, without significant difference, p > 0.05 (according to VAS). On third day mean pain level was 5.9 ± 0.1 in group 1 and 3.6 ± 0.1 in group 2, with significant difference, p < 0.05. The mean time for complete pain relief in group 1 and in group 2 was 8.1 ± 0.3 and 4.2 ± 0.2 days respectively. The difference was statistically significant (P = 0.0001). The mean period for complete socket healing was 11.1 ± 0.3 (range 7–14) and 7.2 ± 0.2 (range 5–9) days in the groups 1 and 2 respectively, with significant difference (P = 0.0001). When comparing 2 group the best pain relief was patients first group. Hyperemia of the mucous membrane of the socket of the extracted tooth on the 5th day of treatment is completely absent in the 2nd group only in 32% of patients of the 1st group, this indicator reaches 98%.
