Aim <p>The study aimed to evaluate and compare the perioperative efficacy of immuno-nutritional and protein supplements as dietary adjuncts in patients undergoing surgery for oral cavity cancer by assessing perioperative Body Mass Index, wound healing and length of hospital stay.</p> Materials and Methods <p>A prospective, randomized, blinded study was conducted in 40 oral cancer patients who underwent surgical resection. Patients in Group A received Pentasure Immunomax supplement postoperatively, and patients in Group B received normal protein powder supplement postoperatively. Three anthropometric parameters, Body Mass Index, triceps skinfold thickness and mid-arm muscle circumference, were measured 1&#xa0;week preoperatively and 4th week postoperatively. Nine parameters obtained from subjective global assessment form were measured at baseline one week before the surgery and then on 4th week postoperatively. Duration of hospital stay and incidence of delayed wound healing were also evaluated.</p> Results <p>There was no significant difference in anthropometric parameters between both the groups. However, immuno-nutrition group showed statistically significant difference in Subjective global assessment parameters with lower incidence of wound complications and reduced duration of hospital stay.</p> Conclusion <p>Immuno-nutrition should be included in postoperative dietary supplements for optimal post-surgical nutritional status and reducing delays in adjuvant radio-chemotherapy.</p>

Aim
