Aim <p>This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of amniotic membrane as an alternative for grafting oral soft tissue defects.</p> Material &amp; methods <p>20 patients with superficial intraoral soft tissue epithelial lesions were selected from the IPD &amp;OPD. In selected patients the lesion was excised and was covered with amniocare membrane and sutured with the surrounding tissues followed by dressing.</p> Results <p>Excision of the lesions &amp; coverage with amniotic membrane was successfully carried out without any discomfort. The membrane was found to be acceptable to handle as an intraoral graft material. Reduction in pain &amp; swelling was observed post-operatively after 1 week &amp; month. In 90% of the patients epithelization was good. Wound contracture was absent in 80% of the patients where as in 20% only slight contracture was present. Overall healing was proved to be good &amp; faster using amniotic membrane.</p> Conclusion <p>This study showed the clinical usefulness of human AM as a biological graft material when used intraorally. The results suggested that human AM is biologically acceptable graft to oral wounds and could be a suitable clinical alternative for repair of the oral defects.</p>

Aim

Material & methods
