<p>Maxillofacial pathologies are one of the most common reasons for tracheostomy. Tracheostomy is an invasive but simple procedure that can be performed when noninvasive attempts have failed. When detecting a difficult airway, tracheostomy may be the primary or secondary choice to secure the airway, regardless of whether this procedure is performed electively or in an emergency. This short communication highlights the most common settings that maxillofacial surgeons encounter concerning the placement of surgical airways.</p>
