Objective <p>To measure the effectiveness of lip taping in changing maxillofacial soft and hard tissue dimensions in patients with unilateral complete cleft lip and palate (UCLP).</p> Design <p>Retrospective cohort study.</p> Setting <p>Available photographs and maxillary casts of patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate who were treated with lip taping were assessed at three time intervals, at the beginning of the treatment (T1), just before primary lip repair surgery (T2) and eight weeks after lip surgery (T3).</p> Participants <p>Twenty infants with unilateral complete cleft lip and palate.</p> Main Outcome Measures <p>Various soft and hard tissue parameters were assessed at three time points.</p> Results <p>The study found statistically significant difference (<i>p</i>-value &lt; 0.001) at 95% confidence interval (CI) in all parameters pertaining to reduce the cleft gap and improve the nasal symmetry.</p> Conclusions <p>Lip taping is a successful and inexpensive method of changing maxillofacial and nasoalveolar parameters before primary surgical lip repair in infants with unilateral complete cleft lip and palate.</p>

Objective
