Background <p>Plasma cells are antibody producing ovoid cells which are generated secondary to antigenic stimulation of B-cells. In case of plasma cell dyscrasias, these cells virtually always secrete monoclonal immunoglobulins (Ig) or Ig fragments, serving as tumour markers. A degree of overlap in their histological and immunological characteristic raises a diagnostic dilemma.</p> Objective <p>To report the distribution of plasma cell lesions encountered in the oral cavity and discuss the diagnostic difficulty of plasma cell lesions.</p> Material and methods <p>This retrospective study was conducted on plasma cell lesions encountered over a period of 13-year (January 2011 to August 2023) analysis.</p> Results <p>Out of 5068 biopsies, 20(0.39%) cases were diagnosed with plasma cell lesions. Out of which 14 were plasma cell gingivitis (PCG), 1 plasma cell granuloma, 2 multiple myeloma (MM), 2 solitary plasmacytoma of bone (SP) and 1 case of IgG4-related disorder.</p> Conclusion <p>For better management and treatment plan formulation, distinction of reactive or immune-mediated from neoplastic plasma cells lesions is of utmost importance. The study further helped in eliminating the benign from the malignant lesions serves as the basis for determining prognosis.</p>

Background

Objective

To report the distribution of plasma cell lesions encountered in the oral cavity and discuss the diagnostic difficulty of plasma cell lesions.

Material and methods
