Background <p>The extraction of impacted mandibular third molars is a common procedure in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Complications associated with third molar extraction vary in frequency, ranging from 4.6 to 30.9%. Wound dressing plays an important role in facilitating easy recovery. Dressings serve to shield the wound from mechanical, microbiological, and thermal damage. Traditionally, intraoral extraction wounds have been controlled with saline gauze strain packs or sutures.</p> Aim <p>The aim of this current systematic review and meta-analysis is to evaluate the effect of Reso-Pac® as a wound dressing on post-operative healing parameters related to third molar surgery.</p> Methods <p>Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines are used in the reporting of this study. Prospero registration was performed (CRD42024546389). Population, Intervention, Comparison, and Outcome (PICO) framework was followed, and the search strategy rooted on the question: “Effectiveness of Reso-Pac® in intraoral wound healing after third molar extraction.” Parameters under PICO include: Patient/Population (P): Subjects undergone third molar extraction; Intervention (I): “Reso-Pac®” as intraoral dressing over the intraoral wound site; Comparison (C): Sutures only without any intraoral dressing; and Outcome (O): Post-operative pain and wound healing. PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were the three databases where electronic search was performed based on the priori-set question and by using relevant MeSH terms (Intraoral) AND (wound dressing). Articles published until March 1, 2024, in English language were included.</p> Results <p>A total of 138 records were found in all the databases, of which four articles were duplicates. Eliminating these duplicates 134 records was further assessed by their title and abstract. Full text of the 10 probable pertinent papers was retrieved, among them six studies were excluded. Consequently, four studies were included in this study. Three studies were inlcuded for meta-analysis.</p> Conclusion <p>Within the scope of the available literature, the current systematic review and meta-analysis suggests that Reso-Pac® dressing improves the post-operative outcomes such as post-operative pain and wound healing related to third molar extraction.</p>

Aim
