An integrated decision-making approach using Best-Worst method and VIKOR in uncertain environment

The goal of water treatment plants (WTPs), a significant source of clean energy, is to eliminate or reduce contamination or undesirable aspects of water, so they have a significant impact on human health. The main concern in WTPs development, is site selection, which has an immediate effect on the project’s viability from an economic, environmental, and social standpoint. Thus, the purpose of this research is to perform a thorough analysis of site selection, considering several aspects in order to ascertain the ideal location in a methodical and impartial way. In the present treatise, two different MCDM methods, BWM and VIKOR have been used in WTPs site selection evaluation by calculating the objective and subjective weights and to tackle the different types of uncertainties, trapezoidal fuzzy numbers have been considered. The methodology of this study has been portrayed by a flowchart and a pseudocode. The proposed integrated method has been applied to select the best location for installation of WTP in Tripura, India considering four criteria, eight sub-criteria and five locations. To ensure the validity and to check the effectiveness and robustness of this method, a comparative and a sensitivity analysis has been carried out respectively. The result shows Water Quality Index is best criteria and the location Barjala is thought to be the most suitable and potential WTP site location. This study delivers practical and scientific advice for choosing WTP sites, which is crucial for advancing the development of clean energy and attaining a sustainable energy supply.
