摘要

Utilization of byproducts is a highly efficacious method for the efficient disposal of waste produced by the food industry. This phenomenon is particularly conspicuous within the fruit and vegetable sectors, attributed to their substantial contribution to global food wastage. Given appropriate technological applications, these byproducts have the potential to attract commercial interest. Turmeric, for instance, is a noteworthy example wherein its leaves, traditionally considered waste, are often discarded or incinerated. Numerous research endeavors have demonstrated the presence of essential oils in turmeric leaves, showcasing antimicrobial and antioxidant attributes. Following extraction via diverse techniques, these essential oils could be integrated into biodegradable films for the creation of an active packaging system, consequently augmenting the longevity of food items. As the turmeric essential oil have significant antimicrobial and antioxidant activity, this could be employed for the development of an active packaging system which could be benficial for the improvement of shelf life of packed food.
